NAPLES, Fla. (March 30, 2026) — Robert J. Zehr, M.D., of the Zehr Center for Orthopaedics, recently completed his 33rd outpatient total knee replacement using Zimmer Biomet’s ROSA® robotic-assisted surgery system. What marks this occasion is that it was the first time the enhanced version of the ROSA® system was used in Southwest Florida. ROSA® with OptimiZe™ received FDA clearance in November of 2025. The new software offers a more customized experience for surgeons to help deliver accurate and reproducible outcomes in robotic-assisted total knee replacement surgery. Dr. Zehr calls it “a game changer.”
Anticipating its release in the U.S., Dr. Zehr attended a special training session on the new software in Montreal in July 2025. Zimmer Biomet began rolling out the enhanced version to the U.S. early in 2026 and the upgraded program was first installed in Southwest Florida at Seaside Surgery Center, the ambulatory surgery center designed exclusively for outpatient joint replacement co-founded by Dr. Zehr in 2015.
To further his expertise with the system and the components supporting it, Dr. Zehr will attend the Smart Implant & Technology Symposium in Scottsdale, Arizona in May. The faculty-led immersive symposium deep dives into the world’s first smart knee – Persona IQ®, the mymobility® Care Management platform, and the ZBEdge Analytics data ecosystem. Dr. Zehr was the first orthopaedic surgeon in Southwest Florida to introduce the interactive mymobility® app into practice, which he did in 2022.
